NAADVIDYA — Teacher Terms & Conditions

Version 1.0 | Requires legal review before publication

PART A — JOINING & ELIGIBILITY

A1. Who may apply as a teacher

  • Any individual with a recognised Indian Classical music qualification (minimum Madhyama Pratham or equivalent) may apply
  • Sangeet Visharad, Sangeet Alankar, or equivalent post-graduate qualifications are strongly preferred
  • Instrumentalists (Tabla, Sitar, Sarod, Bansuri, Veena, Harmonium, etc.) with demonstrable teaching experience may apply
  • Applicants from international backgrounds (NRI, diaspora, foreign nationals) are welcome

A2. Approval process

  • Submitting a profile does not guarantee approval
  • The Naadvidya Gurus review all applications personally
  • Approval criteria: qualifications, teaching experience, communication quality, profile completeness
  • The Naadvidya Gurus may interview applicants via video call before approval
  • Rejected applications receive written feedback and may be reconsidered after 90 days
  • Approval is for the platform as a whole — individual class offerings are also subject to approval

A3. Profile requirements (mandatory before going live)

  • Professional photo (clear, well-lit, appropriate for an academic platform)
  • Written bio (minimum 150 words) in English. Hindi/Gujarati optional additional
  • Sangeet qualifications listed with year and institution
  • Specialisations (ragas, taal, genre, instrument)
  • Intro video (strongly recommended, not mandatory) — maximum 3 minutes
  • Published availability slots (minimum 4 slots per week to remain active)

PART B — REVENUE & PAYMENTS

B1. Revenue share

  • Teachers receive 80% of the effective session fee for every completed session
  • The platform owner (owner_admin, is_owner = true) receives 100% — no platform cut applies to their teaching sessions
  • The platform retains 20% to cover operations, infrastructure, and Razorpay fees
  • The 80% is calculated on the effective per-session rate as derived from the credit pack the student purchased

B2. When teachers get paid

  • Naadvidya operates a manual payout model in Phase 1
  • Payouts are processed by Naadvidya on the 1st and 15th of every month
  • Teachers must have a valid UPI ID or bank account registered in their dashboard
  • Minimum payout threshold: ₹500. Amounts below this roll over to the next cycle
  • Payout records are visible in the teacher's Earnings dashboard at all times

B3. Session fee setting

  • Teachers set their own per-session fee in their profile
  • Minimum fee: ₹500 per session
  • Recommended range: ₹700–₹1,500 for Madhyama/Visharad; ₹1,000–₹2,500 for Alankar & Beyond
  • Naadvidya may advise fee adjustments to maintain platform consistency — advice is not mandatory
  • Fee changes take effect for new bookings only; existing confirmed sessions are honoured at the original fee

B4. What teachers are never paid for

  • Cancelled sessions (by teacher)
  • No-show sessions (by teacher)
  • Sessions disputed and resolved against the teacher
  • Sessions cancelled by mutual agreement before the 24-hour window

PART C — TEACHING OBLIGATIONS

C1. Session quality standards

  • Sessions must begin within 5 minutes of the scheduled start time
  • Teachers must be in a quiet, adequately lit environment
  • A tanpura or electronic shruti box must be available during vocal sessions
  • Teachers are expected to have their curriculum or session plan ready before joining
  • The platform may, with prior notice, audit a session recording (if recording is enabled) for quality assurance

C2. Homework and assignments

  • Teachers are strongly encouraged (not mandated) to post an assignment after every session
  • Assignments posted must be reviewed within 72 hours of student submission
  • Teachers who consistently fail to review homework within 72 hours will receive a dashboard warning
  • Feedback must be constructive. One-word feedback ("Good.") is not acceptable and is grounds for a quality flag

C3. Communication with students

  • All student communication must happen within the Naadvidya platform (in-app messaging, assignment notes)
  • Teachers must not share personal phone numbers, WhatsApp, email, or social media with students for teaching purposes
  • This rule protects both teachers and students. Violations result in account suspension
  • Emergency contact via platform support is allowed

C4. Conduct

  • Teachers must maintain professional conduct at all times
  • Discrimination, harassment, or inappropriate content of any kind results in immediate suspension and permanent ban
  • Political, religious, or commercially promotional content during sessions is prohibited
  • Teachers may not promote competing platforms or their own independent teaching services to Naadvidya students

PART D — AVAILABILITY & RELIABILITY

D1. Minimum availability

  • Active teachers must maintain at least 4 bookable slots per week
  • Dropping below 4 slots for more than 2 consecutive weeks triggers a profile review
  • Teachers who are unavailable for more than 4 consecutive weeks (without prior notice to Naadvidya) will have their profile unlisted

D2. Holiday and leave

  • Teachers must mark holidays at least 7 days in advance (see Scheduling & Holiday Policy)
  • Extended leave (> 2 weeks) must be communicated to Naadvidya at least 14 days prior
  • All enrolled students must be notified of extended leave by the platform

D3. Cancellation limits

  • Maximum 2 session cancellations per month per student relationship
  • Maximum 8 cancellations per month total (across all students)
  • Exceeding these limits triggers a formal review by the Naadvidya Gurus

PART E — INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY

E1. Curriculum and notes

  • All original teaching materials (bandishes, notations, compositions) created by teachers remain the teacher's intellectual property
  • Teachers grant Naadvidya a non-exclusive, non-commercial licence to display their profile, bio, and sample materials on the platform
  • Teachers may not upload copyrighted materials (published books, recordings owned by others) to the platform

E2. Session recordings

  • Sessions may only be recorded with the explicit mutual consent of both teacher and student
  • Recordings are stored in the student's private R2 folder — not publicly accessible
  • Teachers may not record sessions on their own devices without student consent

PART F — TERMINATION

F1. Teacher-initiated departure

  • Teachers may deactivate their profile at any time with 30 days written notice to Naadvidya
  • All confirmed sessions within those 30 days must be honoured or rescheduled
  • Enrolled students (Gurukul Path, Phase 1.5) must be given a transition plan

F2. Platform-initiated removal

Naadvidya may suspend or remove a teacher's profile for:

  • 3+ strikes within 90 days (no-shows, cancellations)
  • Violation of conduct standards
  • Teaching independently to Naadvidya students outside the platform (within 12 months of joining)
  • Providing false qualification information

F3. Pending payouts on termination

  • All completed session payouts due are honoured regardless of the reason for termination
  • Payouts for disputed sessions are held pending resolution

By completing the teacher registration process and having their profile approved on Naadvidya, teachers confirm they have read, understood, and agree to these Terms & Conditions.

Naadvidya reserves the right to update these terms with 30 days written notice to all active teachers.
